The Treasure Map Group believes that “when you honestly want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking, you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic. If that be the case, you may be suffering from an illness which only a spiritual experience will conquer.” (Alcoholics Anonymous, page 44)
We also believe that there many ways in which that spiritual experience can be obtained. However, at least for us, the general means of this “spiritual awakening” is though applying the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to our lives. There are many paths inside and outside of A.A. to acquire a spiritual experience. The Treasure Map Group’s message focuses upon the path laid out in 1939 with the publishing of the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, the “Big Book”.
For us, the late Sandy B.’s quote sums up our thoughts and our message.
“The Big Book is not the treasure. It’s the treasure map. God is the Treasure! Follow the treasure map to find the Treasure!” – Sandy B.
